# Journal

> An automatic daily log of all your dictations, meetings, and voice activity.

## Overview

The Journal is a chronological daily record of everything you've dictated and every meeting you've recorded. It's generated automatically — no manual logging required.

## What's in a journal entry

Each day's journal includes:

* **Timeline** — a chronological list of dictations and meetings with timestamps
* **Highlights** — key phrases and topics extracted from the day's voice activity
* **Task blocks** — dictations grouped by the app they were delivered to
* **Word count** — total words dictated that day

## Viewing the journal

Open Resonant's main window and navigate to the **Journal** tab. You can browse by date or search across all journal entries.

You can also query the journal through the [MCP integration](/docs/integrations/mcp) using the `get_journal` tool.

## Privacy

The journal is stored locally on your device. It is never uploaded or synced to the cloud unless you explicitly use the cloud sync feature (Pro).
