# Relay

> Use your phone as a wireless microphone for Resonant on your Mac or Windows PC.

## Overview

Relay turns your phone into a remote microphone for Resonant. Walk around the room, sit on the couch, or pace during a brainstorm — your voice is captured by your phone and streamed to Resonant on your desktop for dictation.

## How it works

1. Your phone captures audio through its built-in microphone
2. Audio is streamed over your local network to Resonant on your desktop
3. Resonant transcribes the audio on-device, exactly like a local microphone

The connection is peer-to-peer over your local network. Audio never leaves your LAN.

## Setup

1. Ensure your phone and desktop are on the same Wi-Fi network.
2. In Resonant's settings, enable **Relay** and scan the QR code with your phone.
3. The phone connects and Resonant begins using it as an audio source.

<Note>
  Relay is currently available for iPhone and Android. The mobile app acts purely as a microphone — all speech recognition happens on your desktop.
</Note>

## When to use Relay

* **Remote mic** — dictate from across the room
* **Walking meetings** — capture your thoughts while moving
* **Quiet environments** — your phone's mic may be closer to your mouth than your laptop's
