GigaAM v2 Russian: The Best Offline Russian Dictation for Mac
Russian is a language where general-purpose multilingual models often fall short. Whisper covers Russian, and accuracy is reasonable, but for Russian-primary speakers who need to dictate professionally — documents, legal or medical notes, correspondence — a dedicated model makes a meaningful difference. GigaAM v2 is that model.
Built by Russia's leading speech AI team
GigaAM v2 was developed by SaluteSpeech, the speech AI research group at Sber (Sberbank). SaluteSpeech has produced some of the best Russian ASR systems in existence, and GigaAM v2 is their current best publicly available model.
It uses a NeMo transducer architecture — the same family as NVIDIA's Parakeet, adapted for Russian — trained specifically on large-scale Russian speech data. The result is state-of-the-art accuracy for Russian ASR in an offline, locally-runnable package.
Version 2 of GigaAM carries a commercial license, which means it can be distributed and used in applications like Resonant without restrictions. The model is 231 MB INT8 quantized — compact enough to download quickly and store without concern.
Why dedicated matters for Russian
Russian has morphological complexity that challenges general models: extensive inflection, consonant clusters, stress patterns that shift meaning, and significant variation between formal and informal register. A model trained primarily on Russian speech internalizes these patterns in ways that multilingual models, spreading capacity across many languages, cannot replicate.
On Russian dictation content — professional text, technical terms, proper nouns — GigaAM v2 will meaningfully outperform Whisper Turbo on Russian. If you dictate a significant amount of Russian, the switch is worth making.
How to enable it
Open Resonant Settings → Transcription and select “GigaAM v2 Russian”. The 231 MB model downloads quickly. Once complete, all dictation is processed through GigaAM v2 locally on your Mac.
Note that GigaAM v2 is Russian-only. If you occasionally need to dictate in English or other languages in the same session, consider keeping Whisper Turbo available and switching between them. Resonant lets you download multiple models and switch between them in settings.
